PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - BEAVER SCHOLAR INTERNS (EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM - OSU)
As a professional development intern, I organized and led presentations on professional development topics for fellow Beaver Scholar Interns with the objective of providing them with information on how to better themselves personally, academically, and professionally. The main component of the job was conducting weekly workshops throughout the year focusing on topics such as resume building and formatting, social branding and developing ePortfolios, job interviewing, writing cover letters, using LinkedIn effectively, scholarships, time management, coding, event planning, and attending industry conferences. A mix of slideshow presentations and creating worksheets for interns to brainstorm and begin organizing their thoughts on how to strategically incorporate these aspects into their career planning and professional development.
To provide balance to the programming, I incorporated guest speakers into the program by coordinating with organizations on campus from the Academic Success Center, the Career Development Center, the OSUGO - Study Aboard Office, and the Student Leadership Institute. We set aside a spring afternoon as a photo shoot to update professional head shots (an example of the group can be seen above).
