About
My name is Victoria Elligsen, a recent graduate of Oregon State University's College of Liberal Arts with two bachelors of science in history and anthropology, with a concentration in archaeology. I grew up on the Oregon Coast, which has informed my marine orientation towards archaeology. When thinking of higher education aspirations, I knew I wanted history to be my primary focus of study, but also wanted to find a way to infuse some of my interests in a way that I haven’t seen depicted popularly. My proximity to the ocean and studying oceanography and related marine sciences influenced my worldview and academic interests. When I was browsing through an old episode of Crash Course World History YouTube videos hosted by John Green, he referenced the work of underwater archaeologists. I was immediately wonder struck by how cool the concept of exploring human impacts as studied through the lens of archaeology and history in the aquatic world.
In addition to completing coursework for my undergraduate degrees, I have also earned the PADI certification for Advanced Open Water Diving. I plan on continuing on developing my diving skills while applying for maritime and nautical archaeology graduate programs.
